چکیده
During the past several decades there has been increasing attention to risks of exposure endocrine disrupting chemicals, agents that mimic or block effects endogenous hormones. Previous research demonstrates may be critical periods development where factors such as prenatal stress and chemical can result in system dysregulation which manifests both immediately later life. This review describes types common chemicals routes exposure, structure functions hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis its role physiological response stress, highlights current evidence showing alter normal functions. These topics are unified upon discussion indicating many same on axis, leading long-term subsequent alterations responses stress. We further suggest combination with additive, if not synergistic axis-mediated response. Finally, we discuss vulnerable populations at an elevated risk for dual emphasize areas future research.

Prenatal bisphenol a exposure and dysregulation of infant hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function: findings from the APrON cohort study
BACKGROUND Animal models show that prenatal bisphenol A (BPA) exposure leads to sexually dimorphic disruption of the neuroendocrine system in offspring, including the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) neuroendocrine system, but human data are lacking. In humans, prenatal BPA exposure is associated with sex-specific behavioural problems in children, and HPA axis dysregulation may be a biologi...

Childhood sexual abuse is associated with an increased incidence of age-concurrent and adult psychopathology. Little is known, however, about the biological manifestations and sequelae of childhood sexual abuse. In this study, we characterized the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis of a self-selected sample of sexually abused and control girls recruited from a prospective longitudinal study. P...

Objective(s): To investigate the effects of paeoniflorin (PEF) on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis feedback function of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). cSingle-prolonged stress (SPS) was used to establish a PTSD-like rat model. The contents of plasma corticosterone (CORT), adrenocorticotropin hormone (ACTH) and cortic...
متن کاملThe Role of the Endocannabinoids in Suppression of the Hypothalamic- pituitary-adrenal Axis Activity by Doxepin
Objective(s) The mechanism(s) by which antidepressants regulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis remain elusive. The endocannabinoid system (eCBs) which exhibits antidepressant potential, appears to regulate the HPA axis activity. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the role of the eCBs in the action of doxepin including its effect on the HPA axis. Materials and Methods Male Wist...
متن کاملStress-induced sensitization: the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and beyond.
Exposure to certain acute and chronic stressors results in an immediate behavioral and physiological response to the situation followed by a period of days when cross-sensitization to further novel stressors is observed. Cross-sensitization affects to different behavioral and physiological systems, more particularly to the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. It appears that the nature of...
